Peach Sandstorm is said to have focused on the oil and gas, satellite, government and communications sectors.

The funding goes to 16 projects aimed at developing advanced tools to protect the energy sector.

The group allegedly has targeted the defense, local government, oil and natural gas and telecommunications sectors in places including North America.

European officials do not currently believe that some of the attacks are linked.

Researchers have dubbed the group Hexane, and they say it has been particularly active in recent months.
